Beta 4 and Android Build

Before the Update

Two weeks ago, we attended and presented Less Blorbo, More Human to the public in the Philippine Game Development Expo as part of the Indie Game Star lineup. If you were there and played our game, we'd like to say thank you for trying out our little game! We hope you would continue to enjoy this game and continue to support us and our efforts!

Forgive us that we couldn't make that announcement sooner as we were busy with the ongoing college term and making another game to fulfill our finals for one subject. That game will be released here on itch once we work out the kinks.

The Update

Android Build

The bug that was preventing an Android build from happening in the first place has now been fixed and it's ready to go! This build of the game is unchanged from the desktop and web build; down to the control scheme.

On another note, I'm not sure why the APK is more than twice as big as the Windows and Linux build combined. If I have to guess, it may be because it was built for four architectures (from ARM to x86). You can either delete or move the APK to another storage device after you install it.

Changelog

  • Enabled Virtual Joystick. Since I fixed one of the bugs that prevents touchscreen play, it was enabled so touchscreen players can play without needing any pheripherals connected.
  • Added status change indicator thing. Not sure on what the actual terminology for it is, but you can see the changes for your statuses below the status indicators. Forgive the fast fadeout as increasing the delay would stop it from working. This should be addressed in the next 2-3 updates maximum.
  • Added a mood indicator. If one of Blorbo's needs is too low, they would stop from continuing to do the action. Blorbo will think about fulfilling this need, and this is presented to you via a thought bubble that will appear on top of Blorbo that displays what they need.
  • Added more sound effects. This was missing as the original game had more sound effects other than the footsteps. They are mostly original foley because we didn't want to hunt down all we needed. The only sound that wasn't an original foley is the clock sound as we couldn't create a good enough foley for it. Credited of course!
  • Added icons and such for menus. They were using the engine's defaults. Now we made new graphics for them.
  • Changed main menu background. We made it a bit more eye catching.
  • Changed footsteps noise. We can't find the original source for it anymore, so we removed it as an insurance in case the original makers decides to go after us if they find this game and recognize the sounds. This is replaced by an original foley, though you may find it a bit too fast. Let us know if we need to change the speed of it (or the whole sound).
  • Changed interaction indicator. It's the thing on the bottom-right side of the screen when Blorbo is near something they can interact. We changed it to accommodate a new touch button for tochscreen using another node, but it turns out we didn't need it. This is an experimental change, so please give feedback on it. It might revert back to how it used to look.
  • Happiness hasn't changed to Fun.

What's Next

The next update would focus on (hopefully) finalizing the scoring system and improving the controller menu navigation. Honestly, I don't know when this update will drop considering we're near that time in college where we have to make a thesis paper. Not only do we have to make that paper, but also a game to go along with it. We'll try our best to update this game as much as we can, while maintaining our needs as well like Blorbo.
